Stretching

to what lengths do you guys stretch. i take 2-3 min to stretch quads/hams/calves/groin before i go straight into cardio, after cardio its a quick 1-2 min stretch of upper extremities before i start my routine.

is there a certain amount of time to hold a stretch to efficiently prepare that area for a routine?

am i overly worried about stretching???

I’ll do some dynamic stretching before every workout which takes about 5 minutes and after each workout minimum of 10 minutes static stretching. At least twice a week I’ll dedicate 30-40 minutes to pure static stretching
I seem to recall a study or two that indicated an active warmup/dynamic stretching was more effective that static stretching for preventing injuries.
ill try some dynamic stretching this week .. all i do is static

For performance, not preventing injuries. And of course people used that as a poor excuse to never perform any static stretching.

There ya go.

i used to static stretch. till ya’ll told me not to. now i can’t even touch my toes. can’t stretch anymore, don’t have time.

you ruined my life.

No one ever told you not to. You just misinterpreted.

that’s not true.

I think he means don’t do any static stretching before your workout. After your workout is the time you want to do any static stretching.

yeah .. I know.
As i’m on Cressey’s Show & Go…dynamic stretches Pre-Workout. Static stretches Post workout.

also take a few minutes every hour to perform static stretches of my hip flexors, piriformis/glutes, pec minor and terres since i sit in a desk all day
I don’t think I’ve ever stretched. I’ve never had any workout related injuries either. Dumb luck I guess.

that’s not true.

that post was specific to pre-workout (performance based) stretching

but, i was being a bit short sighted at the time… i static stretch my hip flexors all the time. i just wanted to trick you
i was just trying my best to play

And of course people used that as a poor excuse to never perform any static stretching.

role.

see below

I do dynamic stretches to increase my flexibility and to decrease injury and then I do static stretching after I work out.

What kind of exercises? I also spend a lot of time in a desk and I feel stiff sometimes.

I do stretches every couple hours but am somewhat limited by the fit of my clothes

i ripped two pairs of pants over the past month stretching at work.

I now only wear dress pants with stretch.

It’s rediculous how tight my hip flexors are, considering i stretch them about 10 minutes in total daily

dont troll me brah

even if you’re stretching them statically and dynamically for 10 minutes, you’re sitting >>>>>>>> stretching.

i do 10-15 minutes dynamic stuff in the morning then another half hour rolling, stretching, mobilizing on days i work out and i don’t think it’s near enough
for most people stretching hams/glutes is a terrible idea because they’re already elongated. Stretch the hipflexors ftw
